A Magical Odyssey
“A Magical Odyssey” was a project that designers aimed to develop an engaging and dynamic campaign to promote a unique fantasy film festival. The festival was hosted at two prominent theaters, Crest and Tower in Sacramento. This project embarked on the exciting journey of conceptualizing and executing a dynamic campaign for the festival.
From the inception of innovative concepts to the meticulous execution, every step of the journey was infused with a passion for storytelling and user-centered experience. The result was a promotional initiative that not only captures the magic of the featured films but also invites audiences into a world where imagination knows no bounds.
Target Audience
My target audience for this film festival was a diverse group ranging from young professionals and graduate students to mid-career individuals, hailing from the Bay Area and surrounding areas of Sacramento. I was particularly attuned to the interests of fantasy enthusiasts, as well as catering to the needs of elderly individuals. The film genre chosen guided the demographic considerations during the research phase, ensuring a tailored approach.

Proto-Personas
-
Angelina Tran, 22
Graduated Student | Live in San Francisco, CA
Frustrations: Angelina’s enthusiasm for cinema is somewhat tempered by the financial constraints associated with attending film festivals. The high costs of tickets pose a significant hurdle for her, hindering the exploration of diverse films that she is eager to experience.
-
Gaye Michelle, 24
Software Engineer | Resides in Davis, CA
Frustrations: Gaye’s primary frustration is with the ticket-buying process for the fantasy film festival she anticipates attending. She assumes herself as an impatient person, so she hates to wait to get tickets because she knows that there will be a lot of people going. She tries to buy tickets online but the technical glitches, long wait times, and confusing interfaces disappoint her.
-
James Anderson, 36
Gigh school English teacher | Resides in Roseville, CA
Frustrations: Despite his love for the magical atmosphere of the film festival, James grapples with the recurring challenge of parking. The search for a suitable parking spot often tests his patience, and the long walk from the parking lot to the festival venue adds an element of frustration to his experience.
Branding Concept
In developing the overall brand concept, my research delved into the essence of the chosen film genre. The Fantasy Film Festival was envisioned as an exploration of imagination, myth, legend, and escapism. The tone resonated with a sense of wonder and enchantment, encapsulating an adventurous and epic. This thematic approach extended across all touchpoints of the festival, from awareness posters to digital interfaces, external and internal signages, and even the design of festival swags.
Chosen concept with keywords of “magical,” “boundless,” and “enchanting.” I wanted my audience to feel a sense of wonder and invite them to be the character and step into the enchanting world with the magical dragon.
